Rants and Raves

Let me start by articulating my fondest compliments to mother nature for the adequately comfortable amount of rainfall and wind that has been descending on the smog infested, heat afflicted and noisy metropolis. Although it has been stated that the effects of tropical rains affect the rural areas differently compared to the urban centers, I now officially feel greedy for praising something that has not really had a great effect on myself but has wrecked havok on the lives of others... I now feel like a jerk.

Talking about jerks... How does one qualify to be a jerk? Is there a certain criteria for a male to be considered a jerk? Unlike the female version which is a "bitch", men rarely advertise the fact that they are "jerky" as compared to women who proudly call themselves "bitchy" or refer to themselves as a "bitch". Returning to the measure of jerkiness, I have no idea how one can be considered a jerk. Is it being discourteous to women or being a gentleman but having many women? All this stems from the need to understand the female psyche to better enhance male-female relations. Additional insights on this topic is requested from anyone who could spare the time to discuss the issue.

IMO, women proudly declare that they are a "bitch" because being such is everything that a woman is NOT supposed to be (in the liberal-slash-progressive feminist mind). A "bitchy" woman is someone who speaks her mind, is not afraid to stand up for what she thinks, is not shy, is not quiet, is not submissive to anyone in general (and men in particular).

Me thinks this mindset comes from the general societal belief that women SHOULD be shy, quiet, and submissive in general (and to men in particular), brought about by thousands of years of a generally patriarchal society. I think it's a badge of honor to them that they go against the tide in what is perceived to be discrimination against women.

Now, why don't men proudly declare that they're a jerk? Well, society generally perceives MOST men to be lying, cheating, and two/three/four timing bastards. Ergo, society expects men to be jerks. What kind of pride would you get if you proudly announce to the world that you're conforming to society's expectations? To go against the tide is to NOT be a jerk, and if you're not a jerk, you probably don't feel the compulsion to announce it to the world (because doing so will automatically render your announcement null and void).

This was brought to you by the letter A, the number 15, and the body pain wrought by capoeira. ;)
